OK, so summer’s pretty much over, but sweaty September is here, and there are a bunch of great events around London to bring you workouts-a-plenty this month. Some of them are even free (say what?!). Here’s your September sweat forecast:

Run The River

On Tuesday 12th September, over 3,000 runners will run 5 or 10K along the Thames in aid of Teach First, and they’re inviting you to join them and help raise money for the education of young people from all backgrounds. On the run you’ll pass Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and Shakespeare’s Globe theatre among other iconic landmarks, so you won’t want to miss this sweaty sightseeing sesh.

FREE - Hatha Yoga at Pop Brixton

Every Tuesday in September Pop Brixton will offer totally free Hatha Yoga classes, exploring the connection between breath, movement, body and mind, and helping you to build strength, flexibility and balance. And have fun, of course. Pop Brixton regularly offer other free classes so be sure to keep an eye on their website.

It’s a Knockout event, in aid of St Raphael’s Hospice

Always wanted to take part in It’s a Knockout? Well this month you totally can, and you can help raise money for St Raphael’s Hospice too. Taking place in Sutton on Saturday 16th September from 10am, groups of 10 will don giant costumes and tackle inflatable obstacle courses (and yes, there will be water involved) putting their teamwork and sense of humour to the test. There will also be a bar and BBQ to entertain those watching from the sidelines.

FREE - O2 Fitness Friday at Westfield, Shepherd’s Bush

On 8th September at 6.30pm, the O2 Westfield Store of the Future in Shepherd’s Bush are hosting Fitness Friday, a discussion on using technology to enhance your fitness experience. The event is free for everyone, from athletes to complete beginners, and you can take a look at different apps, wearables and devices that could help you improve your performance. It’s the Genius Bar of wearable fitness tech...we think.

Shine Night Walk

Hold on. People are walking 26.2 miles overnight through London? Like, a whole marathon? Yup, it’s happening. On Saturday 23rd of September you can join marathon walkers as they spend between 9 and 14 hours (depending on their fitness level) walking through the streets of London at night. It’s roughly the same as walking around a football pitch 121 times, so should be pretty easy, right?

The event is in aid of Cancer Research UK, and here’s where you can find out more and register.

BeFit Weekender at Highfields Manor

This is not for the faint of heart, not because of its physical challenge, but because the price could give you palpitations. If you’re up for spending a little more money however, this weekend fitness retreat looks, quite frankly, incredible. From the 14th-17th of September, BeFit are treating participants to a stay in picturesque Highfields Manor, workouts with amazing instructors (Tally Rye and the UN1T Team to name a few), massages and spa treatments, and personalised health and wellbeing advice, all starting from the small price of *gulp* £650. Still, it sounds like one not to be missed if you want to kick your fitness up a notch.

FREE - Bootcamp Sessions in Northwood Hills

While the weather’s still holding up, get in all the Bootcamp sessions you can, especially if they’re free. You’ll get an initial full body reading, weekly progress readings, nutritional consultations with a coach and free Bootcamp classes. We can’t quite figure out why all of this is free, but we’re certainly onboard. Kicking off on September 1st in Northwood Hills, you’ll want to register soon to make sure you get a spot.

Eni's Lab and UK Active’s National Fitness Week

National Fitness Day takes place on Wednesday 27th September, and UK Active and Eni’s Lab are providing a full week of sweat, including GrooveDance, Bootcamp and HIIT classes, at venues around London. You’ll get water, a pre-workout banana and a goody bag, as well opportunities to chat with fellow exercisers over cupcakes. What could be better?

Inferno HIIT at Bikram Yoga Essex

Inferno HIIT is basically a HIIT class in a 40 degree Hot Yoga studio with 40% humidity...has there ever been a sweatier workout? Bikram Yoga Essex are bringing this brand new workout from the US to their studio starting 5th September, and are one of the first studios in the UK to offer the class. We spoke to studio manager Lucy Edwards, who said “It uses Pilates principles, strengthening muscles and burning fat, all without the pounding of a high impact workout. I did a class earlier this week and I’m still recovering now!” Sounds like our kind of sweat.

FREE - Midweek Meditation with Jody Shield @ Lululemon Regent Street

Lululemon are always treating us to free fitness classes (like James Fisher’s Body Weights session, are you going?), and we love them for it. While we’re all about getting sweaty, we also appreciate a good calming meditation session from time to time, and this free Midweek Meditation class and talk with Jody Shield at Lululemon Regent Street on September 6th is our idea of a good time. This inspirational talk and meditation session will provide “tools, techniques and wisdom you need to be sane in today’s world”.
