Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and er Dodge? Everyone has seen the film (if you haven’t get out from that cave) and therefore gets the basic idea – Dodge the F***ing ball.
What they didn’t tell you is that it is actually quite hard to grip the balls, and even harder to not have your opponent catch them. If that happens, it’s off to the side you go, leaving your teammates open for attack.
See this is a quick game, one that can easily turn from winning to losing in a matter of seconds, as it turns out that when one team has 3 balls, it’s not very easy to dodge all three.
‘If you can Dodge a Wrench you can dodge a ball’ – the classic line from the great Patches O’Houlihan. I would strongly advise not to follow his logic, just stick to balls (and soft ones). Luckily, at London Storm Dodgeball there are balls aplenty, so you can practice not being so shit that your team has to accept they may as well be a player down the whole time.
If you want to go try it out, take some kneepads if you have them, and don’t expect to be Vince Vaughan, pulling out the spectacular dives and dodges.
